  • 1 cup rolled oats Use quality rolled oats for best texture
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour Can substitute half with whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar Light or dark brown sugar works
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar Adjust according to sweetness preference
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted Melt and let cool slightly
  • 1/4 cup honey or maple syrup For natural sweetness
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Mix-Ins
  • 1 cup chocolate chips Use dark, milk, or semi-sweet chocolate
  • to taste pinch sea salt for sprinkling Enhances the flavor

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x9 inch baking pan with butter or line it with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the rolled oats, flour, brown sugar, granulated sugar, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine the melted butter, honey (or maple syrup), and vanilla extract. Stir until smooth.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
  5. Gently fold in the chocolate chips until evenly distributed.
  6. Spread the mixture evenly in the prepared baking pan, pressing down lightly to ensure even baking.
  7. Sprinkle a pinch of sea salt on top before baking.
Baking
  1. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the center is set but still slightly soft.
  2. Allow the bars to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely before cutting.

Notes

For the best texture, avoid overbaking. Serve warm with ice cream for a treat, and store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to five days.
